Element # 6 – Promotion

It is important to research schools (dojo) and the clubs before becoming a student to ensure that progress in the art are based on training quality and the skills and techniques. Students generally advance by tests administered by instructors or during competition. Schools / clubs usually have strict guidelines on promotion procedures. Examinations usually include: kicking, sparring, and demonstration of forms. During exams and competitions, individual schools / clubs are identifiable by the markings on their uniforms martial arts. The ranks of students are determined by the colors they wear belts.

Element # 7 – Uniform Taekwondo

One of the first orders of business when joining a class is to acquire the dress. Martial arts, including Taekwondo uniforms are functional and symbolic. The uniform shows the unity and discipline, and is an indication a serious student. Taekwondo uniform for students, called Dobok (Clothing for our way of life), are white to symbolize purity. With the V-neck white top and white pants is ample belt. The Belt colors change as students advance to higher levels, starting with white building and that jurisdiction is acquired illegally.
