If Japanese start building their self-defense force?
I do not know the strength of the mililtary Japanese, but they should not start build their self-defense force more rather than rely on us to enter and save them? I heard they only spend about 1% of GDP on defense. Is it because of the treaty they signed in WW2 or they figure we come to their rescue and not to spend money? Or are the soldiers actually stronger than most people think?
There is a debate going to change their constitution to allow full military. They already have a strong armed force equipped with Aegis warships surface Patriot missiles and combat aircraft. During the 1970s, they even had more destroyers in the Navy for self-defense we had in our navy. Currently, we are training units of the SDF to one of our bases in Okinawa Marine and we have just completed a joint naval exercise with some of the warships.
