How do I get rid of the bad "plastic" smell of my yoga mat?

When I got my yoga mat 6 months ago, and I unwrapped the plastic, the smell of rubber or plastic was very strong. It decreased slightly, but I can not not get my face near him because he is so strong. I tried to clean with soap and water, glass cleaner, and dry for several days outside and inside of my house. Any suggestions? Im desperate … its a very strong odor and interferes with my practice of yoga …
