Rowing Question – How can I avoid digging too deep?

I am a new sweep oarsman, rowing for just one month, 7 seats in an 8 … I want to know how I can avoid digging too deep during the trip, as I think it was messing my shot set up. Sorry, I do not mean canoe … I mean that in the sweep oar rowing in a boat crew, with sliding seats, etc.

Lower your hands. You probably get your hands too high on your chest. Imagine a straight horizontal line just above the knees and keep your hands this line. low hands, the blade surface. Hands up, the blade deep.
