How do I get the smell of my neoprene coated dumbbells?

I guess the smell of neoprene for each felt that way. however, they were the only ones available to me and I need replacements.

I think acetone or ether will remove the odor. Do not use if the weights are good kind of plastic. Only for cast iron or steel.
