How to work on import duties?
I have a parcel from Hong Kong currently detained by Customs and Excise then they know how much tax import duty they want me to pay before I can get it. anyone know how they do something? Are they working on the package weight or value? If it is of value do not include delivery in the value? For example, Goods cost £ 40, £ 30 for shipping. Will I pay only a percentage of goods or the full amount? If this is the case, then what is the percentage they charge? I just want to know how much I am likely to be bitten
In addition, import duties are normally calculated on the CIF value – Cost Insurance and Freight. This essentially means that the cost of goods and the delivery cost of the goods are added together, a nominal rate of law (usually a percentage) is levied on the CIF value. The CIF value and import service charge and VAT are added to 17.5% is added on top. There is also a processing fee for Mail / Parcelforce.
