Century Martial

A brief history of martial arts

n our culture, when the term "martial arts" is used, the image that comes to mind people are specifically fighting arts of East Asia. Karate, Kung Fu, Judo and are representative of this idea. However, it is much more comprehensive term, and the implications, it is much older than you might think.

The first mention of the term "martial arts" was from 15th century Europe and has been used to describe European fighting styles. fighting arts in general have spent much variety of terms such as "Art of Strategy" as used by the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, "Art of War "Used by Sun Tsu, and so on. Whatever the term designates a systematized form of combat.

Acts of Coding fighting techniques date back at least to the Bronze Age, or 20th century BCE. In the tomb of Amenemhat, pharaoh of Egypt during this time, we discovered a mural depicting wrestlers. Created earlier than that, in the 26th century BC, "The Standard of Ur" depicts a battle scene armed with tanks and weapons. Both imply that standardized forms of struggle might have existed throughout history recorded.

It is generally accepted that oriental styles had their origins in the establishment of trade routes between China and India around 600 BCE. Many of the strategies and philosophies struggle that developed at that time were coded in Sun Tsu "The Art of War."

Now, fast forward to the British colonization of Asia in the 19th century. Great Britain was a trend every time they took over a country to remove the fighting styles of the local culture. In Ireland, they outlawed bataireacht, the system stick fighting with a stick or shillelagh. Asia is no exception, and this was highlighted by the introduction of firearms.

Since then, the martial arts have made a resurgence as the need for self-defense has never disappeared. The popularity of the forms of the East was heavily influenced by Bruce Lee in his movies. Now, an ever-increasing variety of forms are being developed, other are reconstructed from records, and others are synthesized from living traditions.
