How to best cut anti fatigue rubber mats?
I have about 36 "x 36" 2 in thick rubber mat I need to cut. I have access to the circular saw, table saw, jigsaw, hacksaw, razor knife, hunting knife, saw chainsaws, electric turkey carving knife (as someone suggested) and Drimmel. I lean toward the circular saw, but do not know what the blade (large or small teeth) or if I need soapy water as lubricant. I fear that there will be significant smoke and sticking to the blade of about one foot in the process. Someone also suggested NO2 or CO2 to freeze first. Wants a professional looking cut. Suggestions? I Forgot to mention that I'm cutting 6 inches on one side so I'll have a 36×30 mat. Thus, a straight cut the length of the carpet.
These mats are either rubber or foamed rubber like product. For expansion, an electric knife works well. I never tried the dense rubber before, but try it on the first corner. For rubber, leaving a large table or bench,,, cons-plated on a folding table works, then you have two choices,,,, 1. Clamp a straight line, 1 x 2 works, if you have a right, and use a propane torch and a knife hawk bill. You can try to hand sawing, but you must have a hard enough edge to keep Matt directly. Try the hack saw blade in one corner. 2. For electric saw, to cover carpet with an old piece of plywood, so you make a sandwich of plywood, carpet, plywood, then cut. Small teeth make a cleaner cut, plywood and wood chips to help keep your teeth against fouling. It stinks, keep outdoors. I prefer the manual method with the torch and Bill Hawk. Less mess, more control and less chance of messing up. Remember, only heat the knife, not bright red hot or it will take the character of the blade. You want to cut, not to melt the rubber. Heat is simply drag a lot better.
