Health and Fitness
There are three categories with health and fitness that most people would fall under. You either hate it, love it, or just do enough of it so you don’t get fat. Some people simply despise working out and wouldn’t do it if their life depended on it and there are others who love it too much. So much that they are addicted to working out and exercising itself becomes a drug. These people become obsessed with looking good and it starts to take over their lives. Third and finally, the category I fall under, just doing enough so I don’t get fat. I don’t hate exercising, but I definitely don’t love it.
Sadly now a days, with computers, video game and internet, people have become extremely lazy. Especially those stuck behind a desk sitting in a chair from 9-5. A huge effort and commitment is needed on your part to stay fit in those working conditions. I personally don’t think I could do a job where I just sat in a chair as I know after work, all I would want to do is lay on the couch. Luckily for me, all the jobs I have worked in my life require physical activity and being some what in shape is a must. Some days I don’t realize I just walked 5,000 steps in a day but think nothing of it because as far as I’m concerned, I’m just doing my job.
Growing up as a kid, I was exposed to video games but internet wasn’t around. Even though I loved playing video games, I loved playing hockey even more. Every day after school, it was hours of hockey until we could no longer see the ball or we got called into dinner. Which ever came first. I see kids today who look really out of shape and wonder how they got that way. Is it genetics? Is it lazy parenting? Maybe the parents just don’t care or the kids don’t care for that matter. Unhealthy eating habits? I guess many things can be the cause to obesity but at the end of the day, you really need to take matters into your own hands.
My Own Health Tips
Like I said before, I don’t hate working out, but I don’t love it. Some things I do to keep fit, and this may sound pretty obvious but, do what you love! I love hockey so I play it 3 times a week. That’s about 5 hours of skating a week, which works out to about an hour a day for 5 days. Hiking, walking, biking, whatever it is you enjoy, make it in to a routine you can do and stick with so you’re having fun, getting the exercise you need but it doesn’t feel like you are working out. I feel, for me anyways, when I say to myself, “You better exercise”, I don’t want to do it but when it’s, “Let’s go play hockey”, I jump at the opportunity.
I couldn’t write about health and fitness and not mention food. How you eat is very important to a healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips I go by:
- Out of sight, out of mind. If it’s not in the house, you are less likely to eat it.
- Have a certain day of the week you can let loose. Mine is Saturday. Every other day of the week I have to eat healthy. On Saturday if I want some fast food or some pizza, I don’t feel bad. Anything in moderation is okay. Some times a Saturday rolls around and I don’t feel like any junk, so I just carry it over to next Saturday. I have gone 12 weeks sometimes without eating anything that bad because my body just no longer craves it.
- Set goals with a friend. Some days you are going to want to cheat but if your work out buddy is not cheating, this may make you stay the course.
I hope you enjoyed my post and tips. Hopefully they help you out on your quest for a healthier lifestyle. To check out other posts, you can look to the right of this page or check out my Site Map.
